From a lovely part of the world comes Devonshire Tea, created by a little company in the West of England. Take a look at their colourful, sail boat packaging . . .
Some people (myself included) drink tea regularly throughout the day at the same time every day. (You could almost set your clock by my colleague's tea breaks.) So Yorkshire Tea offers three different teas to mix your daily brews up a bit . . .
I'm not green-fingered and I don't have a balcony, let alone a garden, but when a garden centre has a teahouse - well I'm sold. Petersham Nurseries is the great way to end a walk along the Thames and across Petersham Meadows. Its large greenhouse is full of wobbly rusty tables and weather-beaten chairs. Oh and quite a few prams but luckily there is plenty of space in-between the tables for these. The space is enchantingly beautiful. With plants covering the sides and ceiling and pretty pots of...
Tuesday Tea Tasting Assam1860's packaging asks me boldly: “HELLO, FANCY A CUP OF GOURMET TEA?" I don't normally talk to boxes but I have to answer: “YES, ALWAYS!" Their black tea from the upper banks of Moran circle in Assam is strong stuff - just show the teabag a boiling kettle and your tea is brewed. Why? Because its CTC tea - no I didn't know what this meant either - but apparently it stands for 'crush, tear, curl' a method of processing black tea in which the leaves are passed through...
Last weekend, myself and many other designer makers were invited to Liberty's British Open Call. A chance to show the Liberty buyers your products and get their valuable advice. It was interesting and eye opening but ultimately cold! After a ridiculously warm winter, England suddenly turned freezing and it happened to be that day that I was stood outside Liberty queuing with other designers...for 4 hours. It's over a week later and I've just about thawed out!! So after meeting the lovely Bryony...
Tuesday Tea Tasting Teafields' single objective is to provide the perfect cup of tea. And it's not far off with it's Halmari Gold, a classic Assam, malty and strong with a lovely copper (not quite gold!) colour. This June 2015 (second flush) tea has lovely bright golden tips and fine, twisted black leaves. Thought this cuppa was appropriate in the lead up to Christmas, just need some Frankincense and Myrrh for a the full festive package!
Tuesday Tea Tasting Included in my tea tour of Richmond was the tea and coffee merchant Rosie & Java and well, when in Rome, I bought the Richmond Royal Blend Tea, blended to celebrate Richmond's historic Royal heritage. It's a mix of Assam (North-East India) and Ceylon (Sri Lanka), a strong cuppa, not too much brewing time needed. Definitely the perfect Rosie Lee (tea) on a chilly day after a long walk, preferably Richmond Park where there are lots of Labradors...but no big bad wolves.
Oh my do I love an afternoon tea! So what better excuse to head to 108 Pantry at Marylebone Hotel than it being National Afternoon Tea Week! afternontea.co.uk offer great discounts on lots of fabby locations so I booked through them and thoroughly enjoyed the delicious scones, pastries, sandwiches and cakes. But the highlight was the tea....topped up as much as I wanted (hooray!) and so I tried a few brews from the Rare Tea Company, including their Assam (with milk to make it a proper English...
The Sunday sun streamed into The Hawkhurst Vault, just out the way of the manic Brick Lane and full of customers with beautiful bunches of flowers from nearby Colombia Road market. They serve Jing tea with a timer to make sure you brew it right. I love the Jing Assam so went for the deep brown breakfast tea once again. My cuppa was drunk from a classic Churchill's 'Blue Willow' teacup - there are some lovely stories and poems written about this famous china pattern.... Two birds flying high, A...
Cheshire Tea was founded by friends Phil and Paul - with the aim to ‘bring exceptional tea to every palate in Great Britain'. Their Breakfast Blend with leaves from Kenya and India was beautiful to look at due to the fiery licks of calming Safflower petals. The brew itself was a lovely morning cuppa - nice and mellow - and I loved the extra touch on the packaging which detailed the picking time and flush.
